Kemsley was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He attended Merchiston Preparatory School and then went onto Maritzburg College.
Kem played provincial age group cricket in Kwazulu Natal from aged 12. He continued this throughout his schooling career up until Academy Cricket level as a opening batter and a leg spinner. Cricket has always been a massive part of his life with his Dad playing semi professional cricket in South Africa and both brothers also involved in cricket.
Kem has played with and against, some high quality players during his time in England and South Africa. Some of whom have played on the biggest stage in the world.
Kem came to UK in 2002 and spent 10 seasons fulfilling professional player/coach roles in London, Colchester and East Anglia returning to SA for the off seasons. Coaching has always been something he has been passionate about and a path he always knew he wanted to follow.
Kemsley is an English Cricket Board Level 3 qualified Performance cricket coach who has coached in both South Africa and England. Kem has coached at various levels including school cricket, club cricket, MCC Hub, high performance, Emerging Players,
Academy and Professional level.
Kemsley has been in Performance Coaching for the last 7 years starting at Suffolk County Club as an age group coach for U14, U15 and U17 in winter programmes and lead coach of U14 and Suffolk 2nd Team Lead Coach in Summer months. During his 3 years with Suffolk CC Kem was also the Assistant Coach for Suffolk County Cricket Club 1st Team.
Kem currently coaches at Essex County Cricket Club where he is been for the last 4 years. Kem works as an Emerging Players Programme coach and an Essex Academy coach for Winter and Summers Programs. He is also an Age Group coach in both Winter and Summer Programs for U14s, U15s and U18s. Alongside this Kem assists the Professional staff at Essex County Cricket Club.
